Artist Bio
Doug is a visual artist whose main discipline is video. He has produced many experimental videos which have screened nationally. Since 2001, he has done live visuals and produced videos for local bands as well as providing visuals for the Australian band Oka at the 2010 Winnipeg Folk Festival. He has also documented many cultural and musical events over the last 2 decades.
Doug has also performed as an actor in live theater in Halifax, Toronto and Winnipeg over the last few years. He also directed and narrated a play 'The Butter Thief' in 2008.
Doug has spent many years as a photographer and has exhibited his photos in many galleries in Manitoba over the years. In 2007 he spent 5 months on the road with a monk who was walking across Canada and documented the journey with his video camera and SLR. He has shown slideshows of the walk at various galleries and temples.
Doug also has an extensive background in alternative radio in Vancouver in the 90's where he also owned and operated a recording studio. Since 2004 he has been a member of the Alloway Chanters, a group of musicians who chant ancient Indian mantras and hymns.
He is currently an active member of Ace Art, Platform Gallery and Videopool, where he served as a board member from 2003 to 2009.
